Privacy and Data Deletion: What Happens to Your Chats
Plain answers: Junipero does not train its own models on your chats, how to delete a chat or your account, what backups keep, and how to edit or delete memories.
People comparing AI chat apps ask the same four things: do my chats train the model, can I delete them, can I export them, and can I fix what a character remembers. Here are the short answers. The legal detail is in the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service.
Do chats train Junipero's models?
No. Junipero does not train its own AI models on your conversations, characters, voice, or images.
To write a reply, or to generate an image, video, or voice clip, we send the parts of that request to a third-party model provider. That can include recent messages, the character definition, your persona, story summaries, and memories. The request goes out with a random account identifier, not your name or email. Providers may keep content for a limited time for abuse monitoring, under their own terms. The current list of providers is on the sub-processors page.
We also do not sell your personal data or share it with advertisers.
How do I delete a chat, a character, or a memory?
Delete a conversation or a character from that item's own menu. It is removed from your account straight away.
Long-term memories can be edited or deleted on Infinity, Infinity+, and Infinity Max. Open the chat's Long-term Memory screen. Confirm a suggestion if it is right, edit it if it is close, or dismiss it if it is wrong. Confirmed memories can be edited or deleted later. Fixed Memory is a note you can rewrite or clear. Pinned messages can be unpinned. Lorebook entries can be edited or deleted, and a lorebook can be detached from a chat. The memory guide covers which layer does what. Deep Memory on Infinity Max stores more. It uses the same screens.
How do I delete my account?
On the web or in the app:
- Open Settings, then Account.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Tell us why you are leaving, and confirm.
That removes your profile, conversations, memories, personas, lorebooks, and private characters from the product. You cannot restore them afterward.
Three exceptions, all in the privacy policy:
- Characters you published stay available to the community, but they are no longer linked to you. Delete them first if you do not want them to remain.
- A web subscription is canceled when you delete the account. It is not refunded. A subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is not canceled by deleting the account. Cancel that in your Apple or Google subscription settings, or you will keep being charged.
- Purchase, tax, and serious safety records are kept for as long as the law requires.
What about backups?
When you delete something, it leaves your account immediately. Residual copies can remain in databases, file storage, and backups for a limited period, until those backups age out and are erased. The privacy policy and the terms describe that window as a limited period. They do not publish a fixed number of days. Backups are for recovery of the service, not a way for you to restore a deleted chat.
Can I export my chats?
There is no bulk "download my chats" button in Settings. You can delete data yourself in the product. If you want a portable copy of your personal data, email [email protected] from the address on your account. The privacy policy describes that access and portability request, and we respond within one month, or within the time your local law allows.
Who can see my chats?
Other people cannot read your conversations. Characters and scenarios you publish, your username, and your public creator profile are visible to other users and to search engines. Someone can start their own chat with a public character. They do not see yours.
Private characters are only visible to you.
Automated checks look for content the content guidelines prohibit, including sexual content involving minors. Staff may review a conversation when it is flagged, reported, or needed for a safety or legal request, or when you contact support.
